Look At Me

I work with this guy who is generally a real cool dude. We have conversations about politics, sports and life shit in general. But, there is one thing that irritates the shit out of me about him. When he interacts with customers he always has to mention what type of computer, television, gaming system, etc. he has. For example, a customer will be really excited about their new computer and he'll say something along the lines of, "This is a nice computer but, I have a Mac nothing is nicer than that." Or the other day a customer was buying a 40" inch Samsung we had on sale and she was extremely excited because it was her first HDTV. He responds with, "This is cool for your first TV but, I have a 50" inch Pioneer Elite and Klipsch surround sound (which is top of the line stuff)." Like he just shitted on this lady's excitement and that really bothers me. One time I called him out and asked him why he does that and he said its because he is a "tech whore".

Shit, don't get me wrong I AM A SLAVE TO THE TECHNOLOGY I OWN. But, I don't unnecessarily talk about it with customers unless they ask what I got. One, because I'm from the hood and deep down I'm paranoid about someone breaking into my house and stealing my shit...lol. Second, I guess its because I have been on both sides of the coin, meaning I have been at the point where I couldn't afford most of the things Best Buy sold. When I bought my first HDTV I was so excited because we had to work hard to save the money for it. So I would never want to take that joy away from someone making that first big purchase. We have our fair share of upscale douche bags who drop $10,000 like water but, a majority of our customers are hard working middle class people who are genuinely excited about that new TV or Blu-ray player. I don't sit there and say, thats cool but, "I got this or that." Can someone be that self serving? As corny as it sounds, thats one thing I like about my job is recommending products to people and seeing the delight on their face because they know thy are taking some dope shit home. Then come back later and thank me for helping them make a choice.

So, who is this dude to take that away from someone? Maybe I'm making a big deal about nothing...
